Senator Ledama Olekina’s Call to Scrap Governor Term Limits Sparks Debate

Image
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has ignited a national conversation after proposing to remove the two-term limit for Kenyan governors His suggestion has been met with significant public reaction, with many Kenyans weighing in on the future of devolved governance. He claimed that governors spend their first term "bootlicking" and the second "looting." His argument suggests that by removing the term limit, leaders would be forced to focus on service delivery and not survival. Maybe Kenya should scrap term limits for governors. Why cap leadership for young, capable leaders at 10 years? First 5 years are spent bootlicking, next 5 looting. What if removing the limit made them focus on service, not survival? Just think about it,” Olekina suggested. This is not the first time the debate has been raised. MPs call for special audit into National Oil, Rubis deal

Members of Parliament have called for a special audit of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) owing to its partnership with Rubis Energy Kenya. During a session with NOCK officials on Thursday, the Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy aired grave concerns regarding the corporation's operations, citing a "lack of transparency." “The National Oil Corporation is no longer a going concern. We are staring at a dead agency that can neither meet salaries nor sustain operations,” Pokot South MP David Pkosing, who chairs the committee, declared.  The committee now wants the Auditor-General to conduct a Special Audit into the corporation’s dealings, focusing on the circumstances under which Rubis Energy was brought in as a strategic partner.“We must interrogate whether bringing in Rubis without equity participation was the best solution, or just another short-term fix that exposes the Corporation and taxpayers to greater risk,” Pkosing emphasized....

Eldoret presiding judge Robert Wanada has reprimanded police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide unit for failing to produce the suspected fugitive in court. Wananda expressed frustrations and anger over the slow pace being taken by DCI officers to track down the suspect and produce him before his court to facilitate the speedy hearing and determination of the murder case.Ibrahim Rotich was released on a Ksh. 500,000 cash bail by the same judge two years ago after his application to be freed on bail/bond was allowed. The Judge released Rotich on cash bail with attached conditions among them that he should not set foot in Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County, where the murder of the slain athlete took place. Justice Wananda barred Rotich from le...
